Did You Miss It?

A community service project of The Collinsville High School Interact Club (D6460) was featured in this Month’s Rotary magazine. The club, one of 19 Interact clubs in the district, provided a headstone for Everett Singleton, a Collinsville educator who passed away in 1970. Singleton is an inductee in the Kahok Hall of Fame, and was a well-known Collinsville educator. When the Interactors learned that his grave did not have a marker, they organized a Dine-to-Donate project and raised $1,700 to provide one.

Singleton was born in 1914 and grew up during segregation. Local historians believe his leadership and character led directly to the integration of the schools in his area. His headstone includes a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that reflects Singleton’s life as a dedicated educator and community leader: “We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”

The Collinsville High School Interact Club is affiliated with the Collinsville Maryville Caseyville (CMC) Rotary Club.
