Other polio news:
The United Kingdom joined the United States in ending its funding for the the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI). The United States’ withdrawal caused GPEI to cut its budget by 30%, reducing surveillance and concentrating resources in high-risk zones. The United Kingdom’s past support helped protect over 3 billion children from polio, prevented over 20 million cases of paralysis, and helped the GPEI vaccinate 440 million children in 2025. There is now a $1.7 billion funding gap in the 2022–2029 GPEI strategy to eliminate polio worldwide.
Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, released an article about how misinformation can affect and potentially derail polio vaccination campaigns, and how partners and authorities combat such misinformation.
