From April 13th-16th, Rotarians from all over the world met in Chicago to vote on the proposals for changes to the rules governing Rotary clubs. Representatives considered more than 75 proposals. Among others, the Council voted to:
- amend the Standard Club Constitution to specify that our service projects are community-based
- amend the duties district governors to add their responsibility to promote R.I.’s strategic plan, participate in the Rotary Foundation’s grant programs, and support their assistant governors (if they have them)
- amend the process for selecting the member and alternate member of the nominating committee for director
- provide that the Board may instruct a club to terminate the membership of a member or Rotaractor
- provide for a uniform process for removing officers and committee members for cause
- amend the diversity of membership clauses to prohibit any limitation of membership due to sex
- increase annual R.I. dues by $3.50 in 2025-26 and 2026-26, and $3.74 in 2027-28 to continue the provision of services to members
change the timing of elections and the beginning of terms of Council representatives
allow clubs to charter with as few as 15 members instead of 20 - prohibit R.I. from:
- expressing an opinion on any pending controversial public measure
- discussing, endorsing or recommending any candidate for public office
- adopting, circulating resolutions or opinions, or taking action dealing with world affairs or international policies of a political nature
- directing appeals to clubs, peoples, or governments, or circulating letters, speeches, or plans for solving specific international problems of
a political nature
