Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981, The International Day of Peace has been designated as a period of non-violence and cease-fire. Not limited to combatants and peacekeepers, everyone has a role to play in promoting positive peace. As Rotarians, we are committed to speak up against violence, hate, discrimination, and inequality. We pledge to practice respect and embrace the diversity of this world we all share.
There are many ways to act right now, and one is to plan the action your district and club will take to specially promote and celebrate Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention on this date. Here are some thoughts:
- Make a donation to The Rotary Foundation, designated for Peace and Conflict Resolution
- Sponsor a community project to address root causes of conflict, such as poverty, discrimination, and inequitable distribution of resources
- Take a course in The Learning Center to learn more about Peace Fellowships
- Schedule a presentation on Peace for a classroom, Interact or Rotaract club
