April 22nd Polio Update

Poliovirus cases and positive environmental isolates reported this week:

  • Afghanistan: There have been three WPV1 cases this year and there were 21 in 2025. The most recent case was on February 17, 2026.
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo: No cVDPV1 cases and one cVDPV2 case
  • Malawi: One cVDPV2-positive environmental sample
  • Namibia:  One cVDPV2-positive environmental sample
  • PakistanNo WPV1 cases and two WPV1-positive environmental samples. There has been one WPV1 case this year and there were 31 in 2025. The most recent case was on February 10, 2026.
  • Somalia: No cVDPV2 cases and one cVDPV2-positive environmental sample
  • Sudan: Two cVDPV2 cases and one cVDPV2-positive environmental sample
