World Polio Day Planning

There’s a real danger of our members getting “polio fatigue” after decades of fighting the battle to end polio. Don’t let World Polio Day become just another day on the calendar for them. Plan NOW to take steps to join our partners, supporters, and public health advocates to raise awareness and funds that will help us end polio for good. No child should suffer the consequences of this vaccine-preventable disease. Its easy to forget all the progress we’ve made since and we made them a promise over 40 years ago. Decide now how your district and clubs will work this year to keep that promise:

  • Many Americans alive today have never known anyone who has suffered from polio and may not even know what it is. Download and share Rotary’s materials in the Brand Center to raise awareness of what it is, Rotary’s role, and how they can help.
  • Host events. They might be presentations to your clubs on the importance of eradication or End Polio Now displays that light up local landmarks. Make use of Rotary’s resources to choose the right type of event, organize and promote it, and follow up to Create Lasting Impact.
  • Visit Raise for Rotary for tools and ideas to contribute to the cause.
  • Share your clubs’ events to demonstrate our work to do good in the world, provide information that can tell our story, and inspire our members and others in the future.
  • Join this year’s Team End Polio Movement Challenge on the fitness app Strava. From September 24th through October 24th participants in the challenge from across the world will be part of the goal to complete 60 million minutes of movement.
