September 30th Polio Update

Poliovirus cases and positive environmental isolates reported this week:

  • Afghanistan: Three WPV1 cases and fourteen WPV1-positive environmental samples. There have been thirty-five WPV1 cases this year and there were 21 in 2025. The most recent case was on August 31, 2026.
  • Central African Republic: One cVDPV2 case and no cVDPV2-positive environmental samples
  • Chad: No cVDPV2 cases, one cVDPV2-positive environmental sample, and no cVDPV3 cases.
  • Democratic Republic of Congo: Three cVDPV2 cases, no cVDPV2-positive environmental samples, and no cVDPV1 cases
  • Libya: One cVDPV2-positive environmental sample
  • Nigeria: No cVDPV2 cases, no cVDPV2-positive environmental sample, one cVDPV3 case, and no cVDPV3-positive environmental samples
  • Pakistan: No WPV1 cases and no WPV1-positive environmental samples. There have been four WPV1 cases this year and there were 31 in 2025. The most recent case was on August 7, 2026.
  • Somalia: No cVDPV2 cases, and one cVDPV2-positive environmental sample
