• Afghanistan: No WPV1 cases and five WPV1-positive environmental samples. There have been fifteen WPV1 cases this year and there were 21 in 2025. The most recent case was on June 25, 2026.
• Nigeria: One cVDPV2 cases, one cVDPV2-positive environmental sample, no cVDPV3 cases, and one cVDPV3-positive environmental sample
• Pakistan: No WPV1 cases and ten WPV1-positive environmental samples. There have been three WPV1 cases this year and there were 31 in 2025. The most recent case was on February 10, 2026.
• Somalia: One cVDPV2 case and three cVDPV2-positive environmental samples
• South Sudan: One cVDPV1 case, one cVDPV1-positive environmental sample, and no cVDPV2-positive environmental samples

Nigeria’s National Polio Laboratory in Maiduguri has achieved WHO accreditation for Sanger sequencing of polioviruses, marking an important milestone for polio eradication efforts. The accreditation strengthens regional capacity to rapidly detect, characterize and track polioviruses, supporting faster outbreak detection and response while enhancing surveillance capabilities across the African Region.
