New reports of poliovirus cases and positive environmental isolates this week:
- Afghanistan: no WPV1 cases and no WPV1-positive environmental samples. The most recent case was on October 24, 2025. There were 13 cases in 2025.
- Algeria: no cVDPV1 cases, no cVDPV1-positive environmental samples and two cVDPV2-positive environmental samples
- Namibia: two cVDVP2-positive environmental samples
- Nigeria: no cVDPV1 cases, no cVDPV2 cases, one cVDPV2-positive environmental sample, and no cVDPV3 cases
- Pakistan: no WPV1 cases and three WPV1-positive environmental samples. The most recent case was on December 14, 2025. There were 31 cases in 2025.
Other polio news:
Pakistan embarked on a nationwide immunization campaign, with a goal of providing polio vaccine to over 45 million children. Afghanistan also started its first polio vaccination campaigns of the year, targeting over 7.3 million children to combat the ongoing, endemic transmission of wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1).
