Poliovirus cases and positive environmental isolates reported this week:
- Afghanistan: Two WPV1 cases and no WPV1-positive environmental samples. There have been six WPV1 cases this year and there were 21 in 2025. The most recent case was on May 7, 2026.
- Pakistan: No WPV1 cases and one WPV1-positive environmental sample. There have been three WPV1 cases this year and there were 31 in 2025. The most recent case was on February 10, 2026

Following a presentation to the World Health Assembly, attention is shifting from developing strategy to implementation. The focus will be on ensuring that the necessary building blocks are in place to sustain a polio-free world after eradication.
