Other polio news:
Vaccines alone WON’T end Polio. Countries are trying to reach every child by integrating vaccination with the delivery of other health services like clean water, nutrition, maternal care, and protection from other vaccine preventable diseases. Read more about how they’re doing that here: https://polioeradication.org/news/further-faster-stronger-to-zero-how-integrating-health-services-is-closing-the-gap-on-polio.
The two remaining countries with endemic Polio are coordinating across their borders to stop poliovirus transmission. From April 13th-19th, Pakistan launched a nationwide campaign aiming to reach more than 45 million children. At the same time, Afghanistan began its 2026 nationwide campaign, targeting 12.6 million children under the age of five.
