May 6th Polio Update

Poliovirus cases and positive environmental isolates reported this week:

  • Afghanistan: No WPV1 cases and six WPV1 environmental samples. There have been three WPV1 cases this year and there were 21 in 2025. The most recent case was on February 17, 2026.
  • Australia: One cVDPV2-positive environmental sample
  • Chad: Two cVDPV2 cases, no cVDPV2-positive environmental samples, and no cVDPV3 cases
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo: No cVDPV1 cases and one cVDPV2 case
  • Nigeria: Three cVDPV2 cases, no cVDPV2-positive environmental samples, and two cVDPV3 cases
  • Pakistan: Two WPV1 cases and fourteen WPV1-positive environmental samples. There have been three WPV1 cases this year and there were 31 in 2025. The most recent case was on February 10, 2026
