By now, you should have received your September issue of the Rotary magazine and you’ve hopefully taken the time to at least browse through it. If so, you couldn’t miss the ten-page spread on our upcoming 2026 International Convention in Taipei, Taiwan. Whether you’ve been to one or several such meetings, or especially if you’ve never attended, taking a few minutes to flip through those pages will quickly answer the question, “Why should I go?”
Many Rotarians limit their experience of “Rotary” to weekly meetings and an occasional local service project. Many, perhaps for the first time, have their eyes opened to “Rotary International” by attending an international convention. Not only are you struck by the diversity of your fellow members and the breadth of the services we render and projects we undertake, but each new convention locale exposes you to vastly different sites, languages, customs and foods. As Mark Twain said (as if writing directly to Rotary’s ideals):
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”
Join us in Taipei not only for the program, entertainment, education, and fellowship of the event, but to explore night markets, ancient temples, and the skyline’s signature skyscraper. Registration is already booming and housing is filling up fast. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the internationality of Rotary and bring that perspective back home to others who couldn’t join you.
