Pakistan reported fewer than half as many cases of polio in 2025 than in 2024. Pakistan’s National Emergency Operations Centre for Polio Eradication, reported 30 cases in 2025, down from 74 a year earlier. No new infections have been reported anywhere in the country since September. While vaccination campaigns have improved immunization rates, continued transmission in hard-to-reach places leave the country vulnerable unless immunization efforts are sustained.
Health workers face resistance and security threats during vaccination campaigns. Militants falsely claim that the immunizations are a plot to sterilize Muslim children. They target vaccination workers and the thousands of police officers assigned to protect them during each vaccination drive. Over 200 polio workers and police officers guarding them have been killed in such attacks.
These workers and their protectors are sacrificing everything to make our promise of a Polio-free world a reality. Now would be a good time to consider making your own sacrifice by donating to End Polio Now.
